Cholera is an acute diarrheal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and lack of social development.
Every hour, more than 30 people lose their lives to drowning around the world. Yet this preventable cause of death remains one of the most underreported and under-prioritized public health issues. In the WHO African Region, the crisis is even more acute, marked by a disproportionate burden of mortality, scarce policy frameworks, and limited access to lifesaving interventions.

Tobacco is one of the greatest public health threats the world has ever faced and is responsible for more than 8 million deaths every year. More than 7 million of these deaths are the result of direct tobacco use, while more than 1.2 million deaths are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.
